Our 5 favourite pieces of career advice
Whether you’re looking for a new job or hoping to progress your current role, it can feel as though everyone has their own tips and opinions to share with you. How can you decide which advice to take on board? With this problem in mind, we’ve handpicked our favourite pieces of career advice to inspire and support you.
Set attainable goals
It’s easy to say ‘reach for the stars.’ But it’s even easier to feel frustrated and ready to give up when you are nowhere near reaching your goals. Set yourself realistic and attainable objectives and remember that success doesn’t arrive overnight.
While it’s important that you keep your goals in mind you should always be wary of being too rigid. Times change, industries change and people change, the ability to adapt is key. If you stick too stubbornly to one path then you could miss out on some fantastic opportunities.
Don’t compare yourself to others
Why have they got a better job than me? Why are they earning more money than me? Comparison is the thief of joy and won’t help you progress further in your career. Focus on your own path and your own goals rather than comparing yourself to others.
Work hard, play harder
It’s important to maintain a healthy work/life balance. Try and socialise with your colleagues to build a happy, supportive team. Keep up your hobbies, interests and social life outside of work to avoid burning out.
Don’t be afraid to ask for help
Too many of us feel that asking for help is a sign of weakness. In actual fact, it shows your strong and self-aware enough to admit your areas of ignorance and that you care more about the success of the company than your own ego.
