Create a strong profile
Give yourself the strongest possible chance of being noticed by creating the strongest profile you can. Write a clear and concise introduction, detail your education and describe any employment and experience you have. Any sections you miss out will result in missed opportunities.
Dress for the job you want
The old saying goes ‘dress for the job you want’. In 2017 it’s important to make your LinkedIn profile is relevant for the job you want, as well as the job you’ve got. This means including skills, qualifications and experience on your profile that will make you suitable for the job you hope to get.
LinkedIn makes it really easy to find people you know and to find useful connections in your industry. If you connect to more people you’ll be more visible on LinkedIn and you’ll build more useful business relationships which will hopefully lead to more opportunities.
Endorsing your connections for skills you know they possess will encourage them to do the same for you. This will further improve your profile.
LinkedIn groups provide you with the valuable opportunity to network with other people in your field or industry. We’d encourage you to actively take part in discussions in these groups as it will help to increase your visibility. It’s not unusual for recruiters to scan LinkedIn groups when they’re looking for potential candidates.
Post regular updates
Posting regular status updates is the ideal way to ensure you’re visible to everyone in your network. If you’re currently looking for work (and don’t have to keep it a secret) it’s a great idea to post updates about your search. Share interesting articles or post about events you attend so that recruiters and employers know you’re motivated and passionate about the industry you want to work in.
