Mechanical / Systems Engineer – Havant, Hampshire – 6 Month Contract

Nicholas Howard Limited are delighted to be recruiting for a new and exciting role as a Mechanical / Systems Engineer.

Based in Havant, the job specification is within the Aircraft Systems Integration (ASI) to work within the RMS UK Engineering & Technology (E&T) Team on the design, development, and testing for Airborne Mission Systems.

Will include a variety of technical functions, including technical planning, system integration, verification and validation, and analysis. They will ensure the logical and systematic conversion of customer or product requirements into total systems solutions and acknowledge technical, schedule, and cost constraints. They will work closely within the design team and with aircraft Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) and installers, to specify, design and implement installation of mission systems and work through Ground and Flight Trials, including Certification and Qualification.

Required Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

Provide expert knowledge and design support to the RMS UK E&T team by undertaking Aircraft Integration Engineering activities, specifically to support specification, design and supervision of an aircraft integration partner and associated work with the aircraft OEM through the whole project life-cycle, including:

  • Requirement analysis
    • Detailed reviews with customer and internal boards under the supervision of employees;
    • Use of CASE tools to correctly describe and link flow of requirements;
    • Detailed System Specification(SS) / Sub-System Specifications (SSS)/Software Requirement Specifications (SRS) derivation from customer requirements;
    • Review user requirements and ensure correct flow down throughout requirements, either via traditional development methods or Agile methodologies;
  • System design
    • Preparation of Design Analysis Reports (DARs) to assess and recommend design solutions to requirements, including:
      • Aerodynamics for externally mounted equipment;
      • Mass/CG against cleared air vehicle envelope;
      • Electrical loads;
      • Integration with platform Nav systems;
      • Integration with platform comms system.
    • Preparation of Interface Requirement Specification (IRS)
    • Creation of solution / product System Definition Documents (SDD)
    • Develop Test system strategies
  • Support Integration, Test and verification
    • Review Test procedures
    • Support design for test systems relating to integration rigs
    • Support System verification and validation
    • Run System sell off tests to customer and create reports to show correct validation of requirements under the supervision of LM employees.
  • Support to Airworthiness
    • Demonstrable working knowledge of both EASA and MAA regulations to:
      • Support to A/C and training system on specification and issues arising;
      • Signatory for Flight Approval Documentation;
      • Compilation of flight approval documentation

Desired Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

Experience of Airborne Mission Systems and Training Systems development beneficial, in addition to being able to demonstrate the following skills:

  • Analysis of technical problems and the production of pragmatic solutions.
  • Resolution of issues in an effective productive manner.
  • Production and convincing presentation of proposal and design documents Customer and Supplier.
  • Ability to make rapid decisions.
  • Comfortable leading and working with a small team of people; good listening and debating skills.
  • Proven ability to produce innovative, technically compliant and cost effective solutions.
  • Practical experience of Model Based Systems Engineering (SysML, Rhapsody, Enterprise Architect).
