Patient Access Manager – Paddington, London – Contract until end of March 2021

Nicholas Howard Limited are delighted to be recruiting for a new and exciting role as a Patient Access Manager.

Based in Paddington, the Patient Access Manager will work under the Patient Access Lead to implement and maintain Named Patient Access (NPA) programs and support Post-Approval Interim Access (PAIA) requests. This role provides a critical link between therapies which are approved by at least one major regulatory agency (EMA/FDA/PMDA) and patients where those therapies are not available locally (NPA) or not yet reimbursed locally (PAIA).

This position will:

  • Support implementation of end-to-end process for NPA program to support company priorities.
  • Provide ongoing management of NPA programs, including maintenance of existing programs and implementation of new programs (e.g. new products).
  • Monitor performance of the NPA programs against established metrics, and identify areas for program improvement.
  • Support the management of day-to-day vendor relationships as needed for NPA programs.
  • Support end-to-end process for PAIA requests.

Responsibilities:

  • Support implementation of end-to-end process for NPA program to support company priorities.
  • Operationalize and roll out new/updated processes to support NPA programs.
  • Ensure SOPs and training materials align with NPA program needs and update as needed.
  • Work with internal stakeholders (not limited to but including product LPT, Market Access, Compliance, Regulatory, Medical Affairs, Tech Ops, Corporate Communications), to ensure cross-functional alignment, and alignment of NPA program to stakeholder needs as appropriate.
  • Develop relationships and understanding of the patient access needs and processes across relevant geographies.
  • Ensure that NPA programs have adequate support, including disease awareness materials, websites and supporting patient services as allowed by local law.
  • Work with the Head of Continuum of Access to Medicines (CAM) and Patient Access Lead to develop resource and budget planning for NPA programs.
  • Represent NPA and PAIA at CAM governance committee meetings and other governance meetings as required.Provide NPA, PAIA and awareness training of other CAM channels across the company (e.g. departmental meetings, commercial team meetings) in response to requests or identified needs.
  • Provide ongoing management of NPA programs, including maintenance of existing programs and implementation of new programs.
  • Ensure different functions and supporting vendors are appropriately engaged for starting up and maintaining NPA programs.
  • Launch new programs as needed, ensuring LPT agreements, communication of processes and instructions for stakeholders as per agreed processes.
  • Manage requests and drive them to closure through the system; by collaborating with different functions as needed.
  • Follow up on requests and issues to make sure they are resolved.
  • Provide ad-hoc and quarterly updates of the Pharmacovigilance System Master File, in the context of NPA programs.
  • Provide NPA updates for PSURs, and PBRERs when requested by Pharmacovigilance.
  • Actively manage allocation and budgets to ensure quality and timely delivery against timelines for implementing NPA programs.
  • Monitor performance of the NPA programs against established metrics, and identify areas for program improvement.
  • In collaboration with the Patient Access and Head of CAM, ensure metrics allow effective evaluation of the performance of the program.
  • Give regular reports to the Patient Access Lead and other internal stakeholders regarding the performance of NPA programs.
  • Escalate issues that require additional intervention to the Patient Access Lead and Head of CAM.
  • Call out areas for improvement and suggest ways to improve the NPA programs to the CAM Lead.
  • Support the management of the day to day operational relationship with vendors supporting the NPA program, in coordination with Tech Ops.
  • Oversee vendors to ensure delivery of contracted services and service level agreements.

Education & Experience:

  • Life sciences degree, healthcare professional preferred.
  • Pharmaceutical Industry experience in Medical Affairs or Clinical Development or the equivalent in a contract research organization or other pharmaceutical industry support service.
  • Experience with early access/patient access programs, compassionate use, investigator-initiated research or clinical trials preferred.
  • Strategic and analytical thinking.
  • Project management skills.
  • Highly organized with excellent time-management skills
    • Ability to manage time effectively to ensure tasks are completed within timelines and juggle multiple priorities as required.
  • Ability to operate as a flexible team player as well as ability to work on own initiative.
  • Positive work ethic, confidence, enthusiasm.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Fluent in English, business proficiency in other languages an advantage.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including presentation skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced matrix organization.
